Laura Cooper

Sierras
2014 - 2015

In the Summer of 2014, Cooper moved her studio to a small A-frame belonging to her family in Tahoe National Forest, taking the art practice she evolved in her garden and immersing it into the mountain landscape she has known since childhood. She spent an extended time walking and exploring the mountain topography of the High Sierras, collecting specimens of grasses, wildflowers, and black bear fur. These specimens of plants and fur are worked together with stitched topographical maps of the site where they were collected.
