Laura Cooper
HORIZON, 2005/2014
Acrylic, Japanese watercolor, raw silk yarn, silk with stainless steel yarn, and mohair yarn, on paper
30 ½ x 44 ½ inches
In the Summer of 2014, Cooper moved her studio to a small A-frame belonging to her family, in Tahoe National Forest, taking the art practice she evolved in her garden and immersing it into the mountain landscape she has known for 47 years. Horizon is of both places, a loose painting of enlarged Opuntia combined with an hallucinogenic sky of matching crocheted forms, meeting in a ridge line across a jagged middle.
